If You Can Help

The Quest Foundation which runs the Stream Garden Retreat Center was started with personal funds.  A strong base has been established but, as is the case with most endeavours of this nature, financial independence is essential in order to ensure that the intention of the foundation is not compromised.  The center is currently running at a financial deficit and is dire need of donations. Any donated monies will be used to cover the current operating shortfall but also to start a creation of an endowment fund to assure future self-sufficiency. Other avenues for raising funds are also being investigated, see for example the Guided Group Tour section.

Apart from the day to day running of the center, other activities are being initiated in Thailand with the ultimate end of bringing people into contact with the Teachings.  The Quest Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable trust whose present and planned activities include:

  • Arranging for the public distribution of Krishnamurti's books, video cassettes, and audio cassettes throughout Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia.

  • Maintaining the day to day activities of the Stream Garden Retreat Center.

  • Arranging for the translation of the Krishnmurti material into Thai.

  • Establishing  Krishnamurti Information Centers and Libraries elsewhere in Thailand.

  • Arranging local and international gatherings.

Krishnamurti once said,  in referring to the difficulty of getting suitable teachers for the schools founded in his name, that a major difficulty was that , "those who are devoted (to the Teachings) don't devote (to the oganisational effort) and those who aren't devoted, devote."  This is understandable given the radical nature of the Teachings themselves, but even those who are carrying on their own solitary experiment must appreciate the vital importance of making the teachings passively available to those who, but for this effort, would not have the opportunity to find these jewels. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference.

So then, If  you see the importance of there being places like Stream Garden in the world and are in a position to help, please send your donation to the Quest Foundation:

"Then the questioner wants to know how, earning so little, he is to live what we are talking about. Now, first of all, the earning of a livelihood is not only the problem of the man who earns little, but it is also yours and mine, is it not? You may have a little more money, you may be well off, have a better job, a better position, a bigger bank account; but it is also your problem and mine, because this society is what all of us have created. Until we three - you, I and another - really understand relationship, we cannot bring about revolution in society. The man who has no food in his stomach obviously cannot find reality, he must first be fed; but the man whose stomach is full, surely it is his immediate responsibility to see that there is a fundamental revolution in society, that things do not go on as they are. To think, to feel out all these problems is much more the responsibility of those who have time, who have leisure, than it is of the man who earns little and has such a struggle to make both ends meet, who has no time and is worn out by this rotten, exploiting society. So, it is you and I, those of us who have a little more time and leisure, who must go into these problems completely - which does not mean that we have to become professional talkers, offering one system as a substitute for another. It is for you and I who have time, who have leisure for thought, to seek out the way of a new society, a new culture."

J. Krishnamurti, Bombay, India 1950
