New Brain: Awaken to the reality that there is no past and no future; that there is only the present, now and forever.
Old Brain: Right. We've been hearing that forever and no one disagrees.
New: Agreeing with the words is one thing, but seeing the reality is quite another.
Old: Yes, no argument there. Your words ring true.
New: The word is not the thing.
Old: Agreed, but words are what you're using in your attempt to awaken me.
New: You're dreaming and I'm using the stuff of dreams to draw your attention to what you're doing.
Old: Why?
New: Because you're miserable and creating Hell on Earth.
Old: Can't disagree with that.
New: Your agreement makes no difference. Being an agreeable dreamer is no better than being a disagreeable one.
Old: But I'm listening to you. That's better than not listening, isn't it?
New: Not if what I'm saying doesn't penetrate.
Old: And it doesn't, does it?
New: My words might appear to be having little or no effect.
Old: So why, if I'm so agreeable am I so impenetrable?
New: Knowing why won't make any difference. Explanation is useless.
Old: So how can I stop resisting at a deeper level what I embrace on the surface?
New: There's nothing you can do about any of it.
Old: Yet you persist.
New: So long as you persist in dreaming.
Old: And when I stop dreaming your work is done.
New: As far as you're concerned.
