As we close off the year, I like to fast for several days. Fasting seems to bring about a state of clarity and increased energy. Its properties of detoxification not only benefit the the body but seem to placate emotions and suspend thought, providing a keen alertness. Did Krishnamurti subscribe to any routine fasting? Do any readers here practise fasting? What have been the results of these fasts? Are there any changes in thought processes or awareness? From this point of view, I'd think that is so.

This is my ninth fasting day and I have watched closely what has been going on with thought. But what is most interesting is the frequency of tranquility and silence. And reading K's teachings seems different now in this fasting state. I remember reading that K experimented with a variety of diets but do not recall if he did extended fasting.

Fasting is usually done to detox the body. Different states of awareness seem to be by-products of the fast. Water fasting is the best and can accomplish as much in 10 days as a juice fast in 30 days. One fasts for the overall health of the body. Apparently K took care of his body as a 'calvary-man would care for his horse'. I will try to ask some others through email if they knew whether K fasted routinely as part of his body maintenance. Here is one of the best websites on fasting link text

I've started reading "Krishnamurti: The Taormina Seclusion 1912" and as yet there is no mention of fasting, neither of K's nor his caregivers. During that time the theosophists were trying to bulk him up. But I'd appreciate anyone sharing quotes or memories about what K said of fasting. Something does happen to consciousness (awareness) during fasting. There's some sort of new sensitivity that's not available in a well-fed, grounded state.

Except for last year, I do a modified juice detox fast, for 10 days, once a year. For the biological entity. Obviously, a clean biology, will affect the psychological. The colon functions to it's full potential, when given proper nutrients, in reasonable amounts. It only makes sense that the brain too, will function more properly. But what is the proper function of the human brain?
If I am looking for a method to help bring permanent psychological stability, I am doomed to the current state of psychological instability.
