Repetition of truth is a lie.

Question: I would like to help you by doing propaganda for your teachings. Can you advise the best way?

Krishnamurti: To be a propagandist is to be a liar. (Laughter.) Don't laugh, Sirs. Because, propaganda is merely repetition, and repetition of a truth is a lie. When you repeat what you consider to be the truth, then it ceases to be the truth. Say, for instance, you repeat the truth concerning man's relationship to property, the truth which you have not discovered for yourself; what value has it? Repetition has no value; it merely dulls the mind, and you can only repeat a lie. You cannot repeat truth, because truth is never constant. Truth is a state of experiencing, and what you can repeat is a static state; therefore it is not the truth.

The Collected Works, Vol. V Bombay 10th Public Talk 14th March, 1948

Kind of makes you reconsider what you write or say with regard to what K pointed out.

It reminded me what Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Party propaganda chief said, in reverse of K.

"If you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth."

Now, is that a lie or is it the truth?

What are you waiting for?

Or Mark Twain's observation that a lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is still putting on its boots.

The acts of writing/saying are the truth of the moment. Paying attention to them is what K has pointed out all along. There may be repetition of the contents (words) but actions (truth) is not being repeated.

If by "truth" we mean that which is at this moment, it depends on what specifically we're talking about. Some phenomena occur repeatedly, reliably, like the rotation of the earth, photo-synthesis, and lying itself, which relies entirely on the dependable truth of credulous people.

Anyhow, the old guy used to repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat and . . .

"You are the word"
"The observer is the absurd"
"Are you following me?"
"I don't want any followers"
"We are thinking together"
"I will show you"
"Sensation, touch, pleasure, desire"
"The content of consciousness is consciousness"
"The vessel with the pestle is the brew that is true but the flaggon with the dragon . . ." (or was that Danny Kaye?)

oh . .. one could go on and on and on and on and

Unbelievable. You do realize that Krishnamurti said what I quoted? It wasn't me. It looks like you and a couple of others are using something you think K said to disprove what I quoted K saying. Why does anyone even bother to post anything on this site?

Here try this statement: The sun appears to rise in the east because the earth is spinning around it's axis from west to east. Go ahead. Analyze the hell out of this and show how compleletly mistaken this statement is.

Here's an idea. Instead of analyzing everything and intellectualizing everything just stay with the fact. Spend a couple of days looking at this quote the thread started with without reacting to it.

If you really want to get serious about this statement, ask why, if a "static state" can be repeated "it is not truth", because it doesn't make sense. If it can be repeated, its repetition is truth, even if what it represents is not.

Nothing in this above paragraph relates to what I had written.

OVER-INTELLECTUALISATION: LESSON ONE

Holmes and Watson were on the case, camping out on Bodwin Moor. Holmes finishes his reading, puts out his pipe and turns to sleep. Several hours later he rustles Watson.

"What is it Holmes?"

"Look up there, Watson, and tell me what you see."

"It's the night sky Holmes."

"Yes, Watson, and what does that mean to you?"

"Well, Holmes, I look up there and see the vastness of space and philosophically I realise how small and insignificant we all are down here."

"Go on Watson, what else?"

"Well, theologically I see that despite our insignificance in the great order of things God has graced us with wonderful good fortune on this beautiful planet."

"Yes, and?"

"And . . . horologically I see that the north star is 30 degrees above the horizon, meaning that it must be past 3."

"And?"

"Well, I would say, meteorologically that the sky is clear and it will be a fine day tomorrow . . . "

Holmes looks away in disgust.

"Why Holmes, old boy, what do you see??"

"Bloody fool, Watson, some joker has stolen our tent!"

What are you waiting for?

Yes, Soham. Thanks

Everywhere intellectualisation which is chewing over the same old second-hand rags. Repetition of the 'truth' is part of this. Everything that Watson said was 'true' but it was all besides the point, from knowledge, and evaded the central issue they faced in the now. He was so steeped in defining and analysing that he did not notice the tent was gone. Amazing! This is exactly what we do.

Even being awed by nature is part of that.

What are you waiting for?

Of course, that is where the majority miss what K was about.

It's not about the teachings, it's not about the words, it's little to do with dialogue, it is all to do with experience, and that cannot be manafactured.
