Description

Arising in the Himalayas, the river Ganges flows across the great plains of North India into the Bay of Bengal through Varanasi, where the river takes a majestic curve and flows northward towards its source. The river turns back on itself, like the meditating mind of the sage. Outside the pilgrim city of Varanasi, which is steeped in history and legend, lies the Rajghat Education Centre (REC). The campus overlooks the confluence of the Varuna with the Gange. Its vast open spaces alternate with deep cover, creating a sense of serenity. The ‘pilgrim path’ that Krishnamurti describes in his writings wends its way through the campus, across the Varuna and through the ancient villages towards Sarnath.
The sprawling campus of over 300 acres, stretching across both banks of the Varuna, consists of many units of REC–The Rajghat Besant School (RBS), The Vasanta College for Women, Vasantashram, the Rural Centre and the Krishnamurti Study Centre/Retreat.
This is the place where Krishnamurti would come almost every year in winters, a place where he spoke to hundreds of people, including students and staff of Rajghat Besent School, who gathered to listen to him and to enquire with him into fundamental problems confronting man. This is our vision that this place remains a quiet, beautiful place and serve people from all walks of life who wish to delve into existential questions of life.
