Member Statement

K has been a guiding influence since my teenage years in Austria and was also the reason for my coming to Victoria in the late 70's, to participate in a school operated here by the Krishnamurti Educational Centre of Canada (KECC).

These days I enjoy organizing and co-hosting a series of retreats at the KECC's beautiful Swanwick Centre near Victoria, B.C. where I am the program manager. Some retreats focus on K's teaching only, while others introduce his teaching in the context of other teachings that also invite open enquiry into the nature of mind, self and truth (see the website above).

The K DIALOGUE RETREAT I co-host with David Bruneau this year takes place the weekend of AUGUST 10-12, 2012 (see the website for more information).

With David I also host monthly K video showings and dialogues at Swanwick Centre (see Events on the website).

Do you think it is possible to make Krishnamurti more "practicable" than what he himself seems to have allowed for?

K's teaching provides the foundation for a deep enquiry into the nature of mind, self and truth. I feel that there is also a place for a few contemporary Western teachers aligned with such an enquiry, not dependent on belief or spiritual authority, which may offer additional pointers that can be helpful in making K's teaching more "practicable". A place like the KECC's Swanwick Centre offers the opportunity for serious enquiry based on K's teaching while also including contemporary high-quality teachings that are aligned with it and complement it.

If you had to sum up what Krishnamurti is all about in just a few words of your own, what would they be?

K was passionate about us discovering truth for ourselves. To be free to look and discover it one first has to understand one's own conditioning and the limits of thought.

Do you think it advisable to introduce Krishnamurti to people you know? Have you ever done it and if yes, what are your experiences?

What seems to work best for me is to introduce K's own summary of the core of his teaching and an introductory short video in the non-K retreats I host.
